Dinner at L’ Arco dei Cappuccini

One of the outstanding evenings and dinners in Taormina was spent at Ristorante L’Arco dei Cappuccini. Located in the heart of the historic center, just off Corso Umberto, the restaurant’s owner, Luca Cassaniti, greeted members of the Publisher’s Tour in the delightful restaurant, which also features an al fresco area for dining.

L’Arco dei Cappuccini not only specializes in fresh seafood, but the restaurant was created specifically for that purpose. Locally caught fresh fish and exquisite shellfish dishes create a menu that bristles with creativity.

The quality of the ingredients, attention to detail and the creative flair of the chef made each dish a delight to be savored. With impeccable service and recipes that alternated between traditional and innovative, there were difficult decisions to be made when it came time to make the selections. On the other hand, you will be in the most capable hands of Luca if you decide to allow him to order for you. His pride is genuine and each patron, whether a regular or visiting for the first time, will be thrilled with his recommendations. The restaurant has an excellent wine list, most of which are local and Luca knows the characteristics of each. His wine selections were also superb.

The catch of the day is personally selected by the chef and is prepared very simply to allow the freshness and flavor of the fish to fully emerge. From appetizers through the homemade desserts, each of the dishes made a marvelous presentation. Do not miss the lobster salad if you have the opportunity to dine at the restaurant and when it comes to the main course, the choices will change frequently, based upon the season. Some of the selections for the Publisher’s Tour group included tagliatelle with lobster; grouper ravioli, served with a red shrimp sauce; the classic Pasta alla Norma and swordfish with eggplant and pesto. The side dishes were also delicious and included zucchini puree and mushroom risotto.

Dessert featured two Sicilian classics – Pistachio Semifreddo and Lemon Sorbetto, plus the specialty of the house was Tiramisu. A fine time was had by all and the dinner capped a perfect day in Taormina. L’Arco dei Cappuccini is located at Via Cappuccini, 7 in Taormina.
