- The Premier Italian American Newspaper Since 1931 -

90 YEARS OF ITALIAN JOURNALISM

Since 1931, the Italian Tribune, has been one of the country’s largest and most influential Italian American weekly newspapers. While the vast majority of our readers are in the Northeast, the paper, published every Thursday is mailed across the United States with a second class periodical USPS mail permit.  In addition, the newspaper, which is printed in English, can be found on more than 5,000 newsstands in the New York metropolitan area.

Former New Jersey State Assemblyman A. J. “Buddy” Fortunato has assumed the role of publisher with the retirement of former White House Press Corps photographer Ace Alagna, who served as publisher for nearly thirty years.  Joan Alagna continues in her role as the paper’s managing editor, a position she has held since 1973.

The Italian Tribune is cherished by its readers as a link to the members of the Italian American community and the heritage of their ancestors.  Each week the Italian Tribune offers its readers a wide variety of interesting reading material.  The paper combines the best qualities of a hometown weekly (human interest stories, anniversaries, birthdays) with the most popular features of major newspapers or magazines (book, movie, television, restaurant, music, and stage reviews; politics; health issues; sports; travel; fashion; art; classifieds; memoriams; obituaries).

Of course, the Italian Tribune focuses on current events and happenings of interest to the Italian American community such as articles on Italian and Italian American influencers, features on Italian cities, museums, and other attractions.

While we include many articles about Italy, the paper is specifically aimed at the Italian American community.  To that end, we include news and events from many Italian American social organizations and service groups. Also, in an effort to keep in touch with our Italian roots, we publish old photographs and stories featuring the Italian Americans who helped to build America.

Finally, in an effort to maintain the cohesion of our community, the Italian Tribune sponsors one of the nation’s largest Christopher Columbus celebrations.  In the past, this festive occasion has allowed us to honor such noted celebrities as Joe DiMaggio, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Connie Francis, Tommy Lasorda, and Joe Pesci.  Our annual Columbus Gala also affords an opportunity to recognize the contributions of valuable members of the Italian American community.

While providing a link between the Italian American generations of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the Italian Tribune promotes modern thinking in combination with “Old Country” values and ideals.  To this end, we have created the Italian Tribune Web Site – a resource for all things of interest to the Italian American community.  Although the site is already a pioneer among Italian American web sites, we welcome comments and suggestions as we continue to upgrade and update the content and information to reflect our changing culture.

We publish weekly, in the English language. A yearly subscription to the paper is only $47.  For more information about the Italian Tribune, please call (973) 860-0101 or visit our web site at: www.ItalianTribune.com.
