How to Prepare a Delicious La Torta de Fregoloti with Tavola

La Torta de Fregoloti

This dessert is a typical and traditional cake from the mountains surrounding Trentino. It is very substantial and has a distinctive flavor of almonds and butter.


  • 12 oz wheat flour
  • 1 ½ sticks of butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 oz grappa
  • 1 oz baking soda
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 oz shelled almonds
  • a pinch of salt


Begin by allowing the butter to soften. Preheat the oven to 350°F and then grind the shelled almonds until almost powder-like. In a medium sized bowl, whip the butter with the sugar and stir in the egg yolk, honey, salt and grappa. Then add the wheat flour, baking soda and ground almonds. Mix until the dough is consistent and place into a buttered pie tin. Bake for 45-50 minutes. To prevent this cake from crumbling, it is recommended to cut it while it is still warm.
