Sheriff’s Office – Helping the Needy

Nearly 600 turkeys and hundreds of other food items filled up more than 10 trucks, SUV’s and vans as the Essex County Sheriff’s Office completed their annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for the needy and homeless. This is the 30th year that Sheriff Fontoura and the officers have worked with the community for this event, which the sheriff says is one of the most rewarding of the year, stating “This project is a labor of love for the members of our department.”

The sheriff’s Thanksgiving convoy made stops at scores of Essex County soup kitchens, food pantries, social service agencies, homeless shelters, houses of worship and schools to insure the availability of Thanksgiving meals and to stock the food shelves for the coming winter months. “It is our opportunity to share with our less fortunate neighbors, and we’re so happy that the community continues to donate and help us as we try and provide Thanksgiving joy to everyone in Essex County,” said Sheriff Fontoura.
