Order Sons of Italy Holds 46th Annual Golden Lion Awards Dinner

The Order Sons of Italy in America 36th Annual Golden Lion Awards Dinner, will be held on April 27, with Robert M. Ferrito, President of the New York State Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc. presiding. The event will be held at the Garden City Hotel in Garden City, Long Island, New York.

Two outstanding Italian Americans will be honored during the dinner, Louis A. Picani, President of Teamsters Local 456 and Timothy D. Sini, Suffolk County District Attorney.

Louis A. Picani, a Westchester resident, has been a dedicated Union member since he joined Teamsters Local 456 over 30 years ago. In 1994, he became a Trustee of the Teamsters Health and Welfare Fund and in 2016, he was elected President and Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 456. He also serves as Vice President of the Westchester Putnam Central Labor Body. Mr. Picani has spent his entire career fighting for workers’ rights, fair wages, benefits and workplace safety. In 2017, Mr. Picani was elected as the Grand Marshal for the annual City of Yonkers Columbus Day Parade.

Timothy D. Sini was sworn in as the Suffolk County District Attorney in January, 2018. Prior to his election as District Attorney, he was Commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department. Mr. Sini is a graduate of the FBI’s elite training program at the National Executive Institute and a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education program. He also graduated with the highest honors from Brooklyn Law School and the American University in Washington, D.C.

The OSIA New York Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc. was created to carry out the cultural, educational and philanthropic endeavors of the Order. Major programs include The Commission for Social Justice, which was formed to fight bias and stereotyping and the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, a city, state and national landmark owned and administered by the Order Sons of Italy in America. The Foundation conducts an extensive college scholarship and grant program throughout New York State. There are 60 Order Sons of Italy in America Lodges across New York State.
