Palermo Bakery, Home to the Best Luscious Cakes in Jersey

One of the most crucial elements of a wedding is undoubtedly “the cake.” This focal point is the first guest to arrive at the reception and the last to go, considering the bride and groom will traditionally save the top tier to cut on their first wedding anniversary a whole year later. The bride will spend a significant amount of time choosing this perfect delectable dessert to complete her vision – from the number of tiers, the perfect flavor combinations to the design.

Chances are, if you attended a wedding in New Jersey, you tasted a Palermo’s Bakery Custom Cake.  Palermo’s Bakery and Custom Cakes are the wedding cake suppliers for countless venues throughout the Garden State and they are the authority on designing the most unique cake creations.  Palermo’s has been servicing the bridal industry for over 25 years out of their six locations throughout New Jersey – Ridgefield Park, Union City, Little Ferry, Wycoff, Fair Lawn and River Vale.  Requests for their exquisite creations span all the way into New York City, eastern Pennsylvania and western Connecticut.

Just like the beginning of any great love story behind a bride and groom’s big day, the story of Palermo’s Bakery and Custom Cakes has one too.  The family-owned empire was first started by Giovanna and Gennaro Bruno, better known as Joanne and Jerry. The bakery got its name from the region the family originated from in Italy. In their first location, they offered a full assortment of traditional baked goods and Italian desserts in their small retail shop in Ridgefield Park. Joanne managed the store while Jerry, an experienced baker since the age of fourteen, took the title of head baker and cake decorator. Shortly after opening, they began a small wholesale operation where they delivered, sometimes themselves, cakes and pastries to local restaurants and catering facilities.

Twenty-five years and four children later, Joanne and Jerry Bruno have grown their dream to six Palermo Bakery and Custom Cake locations, two cafes’, a brick oven pizza kitchen, a full-service restaurant called The Cake Lounge in Fort Lee and a wholesale operation which services countless grocery stores and food chains. The operation is still completely family run by their children who have followed in their parents’ footsteps and are continuing to grow the business.

Palermo’s Bakery and Custom Cakes prides themselves on the perfection of the process for each bride.  Once she secures her venue location, chooses a color pallet and any additional themes she is working with, she would be ready to set her time to meet with one of Palermo’s 12 custom cake designers for a scheduled cake tasting. This typically happens three to six months before the wedding. Brides will be welcomed into their showroom of cakes like a guest into the Bruno’s home to begin the customization process. There are countless displays of designs the bride can choose from and endless pictures available on digital slideshows that she will be able to mix and match to her liking to create the perfect cake. The bride does not have to stop at just the cake, Palermo’s can also create a signature favor for each guest, mini-dessert creations or a groom’s cake for any wedding.
