Students honored by the ITA hold the banner during the recent award celebration in New York.

Italian Teachers’ Association Hosts 2018 Annual Poetry Contest at NYU

The AATI Italian Teachers’ Association hosted its Annual Poetry Contest and Awards Presentation at New York University – Kimball Hall. Student awards were presented to Claire Coven, Argelys Garcia, Annie Sahn, Benjamin Araujo, Christine Sanchez, Cristiana Santos, Tim Bosco, Dylan Marin, Phoebe Rosenblum, Alex Siegel and Gabrielle Umanova.

Schools that participated in the competition included Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Eastchester High School, Maria Regina High School, Brooklyn Technical High School and Stuyvesant High School.

They also congratulated the following teachers of Italian that participated, Antonette Laricchia (LaGuardia); Lina Rocchio (Stuyvesant); Michelle Albano (Brooklyn Technical High School); Laura Ponziani (Maria Regina HS) and Austin Alexander (Eastchester HS). In addition to the Poetry Recital, the ITA also honored award-winning filmmaker Tony De Nonno with the Dr. Paul J. Patane Italian Arts Award for his valuable contributions to the Italian arts. Award Winning playwright Mario Fratti and soprano Cristina Fontanelli joined the ITA members in congratulating the students and Mr. DeNonno on their achievements.
