33rd Gala Italia Celebrates Italian Wine Extravaganza

The 33rd edition of Gala Italia recently took place at the Grand Ballroom of Manhattan’s Essex House, under the patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Washington, Armando Varricchio. The annual Italian wine extravaganza was packed with VIPs who were able to taste the great Italian wines representing many of the wine growing regions of Italy.

The guest of honor at Gala Italia was Ambassador Sebastiano Cardi, Permanent Representative of the United Nations. Ambassador Cardi was the organizer, together with the President of the Italian Wine & Food Institute, Lucio Caputo, of a presentation at the United Nations Security Council this past November.

During the event, the participating wineries received Wine Leader Awards for their contribution to the image and prestige of the Italian wines throughout the world and for taking part in the historic presentation to the United Nations. The awards of the Italian Wine & Food Institute were presented by Ambassador Cardi, who was awarded their Special Award of Merit, in recognition of his considerable and ongoing contribution to the Italian wine industry. The Institute gave a special award to Italian Trade Commissioner Maurizio Forte for his contributions in promoting Italian Wine in the United States.
