Where to Find the Best Desserts in Italy


The Gambero Rosso is the equivalent of the Michelin guide for Italian fanatics. It has released its annual list of the very best pastry shops in the country. The culinary experts say that the country’s dessert sector is thriving, renowned as masters for their creativity, technique and ingredients. A total of 18 bakeries received over 90 points from Gambero Rosso’s cake connoisseurs (up from 15 last year).The bakeries with scores over 90 earned the ‘Tre Torte’ title (‘three cakes’, the guide’s version of three Michelin stars). Top honors want to Pasticceria Veneto in Brescia, with 95 points. The next nine in order of ranking, are number two – Dalmasso in Avigliana; followed by Maison Manilia, in Montesano sulla Marcellana. Fourth place went to Besuschio which is in Abbiategrasso. Gino Fabbri Pasticcere in Bologna was the fifth highest ranking, while sixth went to Acherer in Brunico. Biasetto in Padua was seventh, followed by Nuovo Mondo in Prato; Pasquale Marigliano in Ottaviano and Bompiani of Rome filled out the top ten.
