Queen of Alpine Skiing

The northern Italian city of Cortina d’Ampezzo has been chosen to host Alpine skiing’s biennial world championship in 2021.

Residents of Cortina d’Ampezzo rejoiced after the announcement, as the city has tried four times before to host the prestigious competition. “Finally we collect the fruits of long and serious work,” said Mayor Andrea Franceschi.

Cortina, located in the Veneto region, hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics and has been a go-to winter destination for decades.
